GottaPlay / War of Words
Privacy policy
Last updated: 21 September 2026 · Age-aware release preparation
This policy covers the War of Words Android game and its pages at gottaplay.net/wow. The publisher is GottaPlay. It does not cover other GottaPlay games or websites you reach through external links.
This page describes the upcoming age-aware version, currently being tested. The previously distributed Android preview 0.1.22 does not include these age controls. The new Android release has not yet been published.
Age groups and offline play
The intended audience is ages 9 and older; this is separate from the store content rating. Before online play or advertising, the new version asks players to select one of three age groups: under 13, 13–17, or 18+, without a preselected answer. Only the selected group is stored on the device, not a birth date or identity document. This is a self-declaration, not identity verification. The age group is not included in game leaderboard requests.
Players under 13, and players whose age has not been set, have Campaign, Endless mode, local records and offline practice. The game does not request an online player session, load public rankings, upload their results, or start advertising through the game’s ad flow. After an Endless defeat their run ends: there are no rewarded or free continues. Offline practice records are saved locally. Age selection does not erase previously submitted online data; contact us to request deletion of such data.
Players aged 13 or older may use online modes. Up to three Endless continues require a completed rewarded ad and a confirmed SDK reward. No available or permitted ad means no continue. For the initial release configuration, all players under 18 receive conservative under-age-of-consent treatment in the advertising and consent request settings; ads for players aged 13–17 are limited to the G content rating. Players aged 18 and older may receive G or PG ads, within the mixed-audience app limit and subject to applicable privacy choices. This does not guarantee that an ad will be available.
Information used by the game
| Information | Purpose and handling |
|---|---|
| Local progress, age group and preferences | Campaign progress, equipment, saved battles, scores, nickname, language and sound settings are saved on your device so you can continue playing. |
| Online player identity | Online features use a randomly assigned player identifier and authentication session through Supabase. No email registration is required in the current preview. Session credentials are stored on your device and used to authenticate online requests. |
| Daily Challenge activity | Ranked play sends the selected nickname, language, linking rule, attempt information, letter paths and move timings to the service. These are used to reconstruct and validate the result, enforce the daily attempt rules and display rankings. |
| Endless results | When you choose to submit an Endless run, the service receives its identifier, nickname, score, wave reached, word count, duration, language and linking rule. Unsubmitted run records remain on the device. |
| Connection information | Website hosting and online service providers process requests including an IP address and technical request information to deliver the service and maintain security. Log and backup retention depends on their configuration. |
| Messages you send us | If you contact GottaPlay, the email address, message and any attachments you provide are used to respond and handle your request. Please do not send passwords, authentication tokens or unnecessary personal information. |
What other players can see
Online rankings display nicknames and game results. Choose a nickname that does not reveal your real name or contact details. The leaderboard does not display your authentication credentials or internal player identifier. Reading online rankings also involves a request to the online service.
Service providers and sharing
Supabase provides authentication and database infrastructure for online play. The current project is configured in the Frankfurt region. Service operation and support may involve processing in other countries under the provider’s arrangements. See Supabase’s privacy policy. Website hosting and email providers process connection data or messages as needed to operate those services. GottaPlay does not sell the game’s player data.
Optional rewarded ads
The Android game integrates Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. In Endless mode, you may choose to view an ad after defeat for a rewarded continue, up to three times per run. A confirmed reward restores health while preserving the run and accumulated score. You may finish the run instead; the game does not require you to watch an ad to submit a completed result. There are no in-app purchases in this preview.
Current preview: version 0.1.22 uses Google test ads, not paid advertising. In the age-aware version, the game starts the advertising SDK only when an eligible player requests an ad. Test ads still connect to Google; test mode does not mean that no data is processed.
Google documents that its advertising SDK handles network addresses (which can indicate approximate location), device and account-related identifiers, interactions with the app or ads, and performance diagnostics. Google uses this information for ad delivery, measurement and fraud prevention, and encrypts it in transit. The exact processing depends on SDK settings and available identifiers. See Google’s SDK data disclosure, Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from partner apps.
Advertising privacy choices
You can decline the rewarded-ad offer and finish your run. Android settings let you reset or delete your advertising ID where supported. Google handles advertising data under its policies; deleting a GottaPlay game profile does not itself delete data held by Google.
The current test build does not display the production advertising-consent form. Before paid advertising is enabled, GottaPlay will configure and test Google’s User Messaging Platform and any required regional notices and choices. In builds where Google requires a privacy-options entry point, an Ad privacy option is available in the game settings. This website does not collect consent on behalf of the Android app.
This website and cookies
The supplied War of Words pages use locally hosted images and fonts. They do not set cookies, write to browser storage, run analytics, display ads or embed social-network players. Animations respect your device’s reduced-motion setting. Opening an external link takes you to that provider’s service and privacy practices. Hosting infrastructure may keep technical access logs.
Storage and deletion
Local game data stays on the device until it is cleared or the app is removed, subject to any device backup or restore settings. Clearing local data does not delete online results and can remove the session that identifies your online profile.
The current online preview has no scheduled automatic expiry for player profiles, submitted results or daily attempt records. They remain in the service until removed by its operator. A verified deletion request should cover the profile and associated game records; limited records may need to be retained for security or legal reasons. Any applicable exception and retention period must be explained when the request is handled.
Before the public release, GottaPlay will finalize its operational retention periods, hosting and email-provider details, and verify the end-to-end online-data deletion process. This pre-release policy is not a statement that those launch steps are complete.
Your choices and requests
You can play Campaign and Daily Challenge practice offline, choose a non-identifying nickname, and decide whether to submit an Endless result. For access, correction or deletion requests, see Delete my data. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights such as restriction, objection, portability or a complaint to your data-protection authority.
Security
Online game requests use HTTPS and authenticated service access. No service can guarantee absolute security. Do not share your saved session files or authentication tokens. Access to a device may allow access to locally stored progress and session information.
Children and age suitability
The intended audience is ages 9 and older. The store content rating is still pending. The age-aware version restricts under-13 and unknown-age players to offline features as described above. Native Android behavior, SDK configuration and the final Play declarations must be checked before public release. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact GottaPlay through the privacy contact below.
Changes and contact
Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date. Material changes to data practices will be communicated as appropriate before they take effect.
